The Perfect Hot Dog...

I recently drove 32 miles for what I think was the best hot dog I have eaten in 5 years. Now Im not a food critic but I know what I like when it comes to the perfect Chicago Style Hot Dog. I spent over half of my life in California trying different hotdogs and yes even driving 32 miles in search of a good dog.

So what defines a Chicago Style Hot dog. (Taken from www.viennabeef.com)

They'd start with a Vienna Beef hot dog, nestle it in a steamed poppyseed bun and cover it with a wonderful combination of toppings: yellow mustard, bright green relish, fresh chopped onions, juicy red tomato wedges, a kosher-style pickle spear, a couple of spicy sport peppers and finally, a dash of celery salt. This unique hot dog creation with a "salad on top" and its memorable interplay of hot and cold, crisp and soft, sharp and smooth, became America's original fast food and a true Chicago institution.
Every place has a slightly different version of tradition, some use cucumber instead of pickle, authentic vendors roll the fries right with the dog when the pack it go. The oil from the fries gives the bus a great flavor.

Now every chance I get I have to try someone version of a Chicago Dog. Whether it a place 32 miles from home, an airport boasting a Chicago Dog, or ordering through mail order. A short term goal for me is to get to Pink’s Hot Dogs in Hollywood. Its a regular haunt for Hollywood, and has been rumored to be the place the Bruce Wills proposed to Demi Moore in the 80’s.

So I ask you, What is your passion. the perfect steak the perfect margarita, or doughnut. I would love to know
