Recently I went to my first tweet-up. There I met a few people I have gotten to know 140 characters at a time. Of course we were all tweeting on our iPhones and BlackBerry’s and those who had the iPhone I had to ask the question “What is your favorite app?” Well I thought I found every cool free app there was, but I was wrong. A lady at the table told me “SearchMe”. It was a graphic search engine. I searched for it that night and went to http://www.searchme.com and was like this is the coolest thing I have seen.
Im in technology sales in real life and I spend my day preaching about how the internet has changed.... and it has. So why shouldn’t how we search for content should too. It was so cool to put in a search term, and be able to scroll through the front pages of a web-site before I click on a link like we do with other search engines. What was even cooler was scrolling through the video and music tabs and playing the clips right there.
One unique feature is called stacks which like the name implies will allow you to drag sites to your own pile of websites of information to share that stack with others. between that and the toolbar. I am able to drag a page directly into my person stack from the search results.
I installed the toolbar into Firefox (I’m hoping for Safari support soon). I was able to easily bring up the main search page, search for content, add things to my personal stack, and look at featured stacks for various topics.
Searchme also has a free (I do mean free) iPhone app that takes advantage of the touch screen and allow to use your finger to swipe through the different web-sites and then launch the sit in Safari or YouTube to deliver the content.
So you can now see why this one of the coolest ways to find what you are looking for.
As always I would love your thoughts.
